Raise Your Smile with Bone Grafting

When you lose teeth, the bone underneath can quickly follow. Your jawbone actually thrives with the stimulation it gets when you chew food. Without a full set of teeth, the bone can deteriorate. You end up losing teeth, bone, normal oral functioning, and even your distinctive appearance. It’s true—bone loss can significantly alter the way you look, eat, and speak. At South Shore Long Island Periodontics & Implantology we can restore your lost bone through bone grafting, a sinus lift or other innovative and effective procedures, enabling us to replace your lost teeth with durable dental implants that will restore your quality of life! With three board-certified periodontists on staff here at our Wantagh, NY office, we’re uniquely equipped and qualified to bring the smile back to your face.

Bone-Rebuilding Treatments

We offer several procedures to help restore your bone mass and make you a candidate for dental implants.

With bone grafting we take bone matter from another part of your body or from a donor source and place it in the area where your jawbone has receded. The grafted bone eventually joins with the existing bone, restoring your bone volume and allowing us to provide you with dental implants.

When you lose bone in the upper posterior part of your jaw, your sinus can begin to sink. During a procedure called a sinus lift, the experts in our Wantagh, NY office place bone graft material underneath the sunken sinus cavity to prop it up and rebuild sufficient bone mass to firmly support dental implants.

Some bone loss cases are severe enough to require more advanced procedures to restore normal bone volume. With ridge augmentation we use bone grafting material to reconstitute the natural contours of your jaw. With a smooth jaw line, your dental implants will remain stable for a longer period of time.

In cases of tooth extraction in an area of decaying bone, we place bone grafting material into the newly empty tooth socket and cover it with a protective plug or suture. As the site heals post-extraction, the grafted bone material will integrate with the existing bone beneath, putting it in a favorable condition for dental implant placement in the future.
